This Appleseed Biodiesel Processor is an excellent example of a homemade processor. It comes courtesy of Mac McQuaid In his own words...

This is a modified Appleseed biodiesel proccessor ...

The principal is the same as the original Appleseed but features a modular design whereby the pump is not a permanent part of the unit.

The heating element is a 3,500 watt 220 volt element running on 110 volts. The standard thermostat is adjustable and maintains temperature during the mixing phase.

The pump is shown below the tank with suction and discharge lines attached.

The entire rig runs on power from my Listeroid generator which runs on biodiesel and WVO

This is the top plumbing ...

On the top left is the vent & upper sight glass & valve.

On the right ... top valve to future alcohol recovery still ... bottom valve leads to pump discharge.

(the pipe union is for quick disconnect from vinyl discharge line from pump)

On the left ...

* bottom sight glass valve * glycerin outlet valve .. allows glycerin drain without going through the pump

On the right ...

* main tank shutoff valve * un-used methox inlet and valve (I use the one on the pump suction fitting) * white PVC fitting goes to pump suction * far right ... valve & outlet to appleseed biodiesel processor wash tank

This is the pump setup I use for the Appleseed processor and the Big Mac proccessor

The suction and discharge is 1/2" pipe and the clear vinyl tube is 3/4" ID.

The vinyl tube fits right over the 1/2" pipe.

The same tubing is used for the site tube

This is a Radio Shack indoor/outdoor digital thermometer used to show oil temp. The pickup is taped to the suction line shown in the bottom view above.
